Vincent van Gogh was a major Post-Impressionist painter. He was a Dutch artist whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His output includes portraits, self portraits, landscapes and still lifes of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers. Van Gogh drew as a child but did not paint until his late twenties; he completed many of his best-known works during the last two years of his life. In just over a decade he produced more than 2,100 artworks, including 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings, sketches and prints.
梵高的作品強調自己的主觀世界。造形與素材、光線與陰影、氣氛和遠近感，他把這些要素完全綜合的表現出來。這種思想使他總想畫出強烈的陽光，同時這種大膽的畫法，修正了印象派的單面性的描繪，給予後來的野獸派及表現主義很大的影響。
